Planning for the one event we all know will happen – our death – is something that all of us know we need to do, but it can be easy to put off because it can feel challenging for a whole host of reasons. However, if you’re queer, trans, or gender nonconforming, there can be additional challenges and things to consider when creating an estate plan, such as writing a will, sharing your wishes or setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA).
Our estate plans are about so much more than just sharing money. They can be a powerful way of deciding what we leave behind for the people we love – making them as unique as we are.
In this webinar, we will talk through some of the considerations you may want to factor in as an LGBTQIA+ person to ensure your wishes are fully respected and legally protected.
The panel for this webinar includes Laura Puentes Gantiva, Octopus Legacy’s Head of Legal, Ash Hayhurst, trans activist and the author of the Queer Funeral Guide, and Jake O’Dwyer, Head of Individual Giving from Stonewall.
What we’ll cover:
- The importance of an estate plan, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community
- Some factors to consider when starting your estate plan as a queer or trans individual, including:
- Writing a will
- Creating a Lasting Power of Attorney
- Some easy next steps to get you started
- A time for questions and discussion
If you have a particular question you want answered, please add it when you register, and we’ll make sure this is covered!
The webinar will be recorded and sent to all registrants. So you’ll be able to watch even if you aren’t able to attend on the day.
